Out of Tibet

Invaded by China in 1949-50, the independent country of Tibet was forced to face the direct loss of life that comes from battles and, soon after, the loss of universal freedoms that stemmed from the Communist ideology. However, it is erroneous to believe that the worst has passed. The fate of Tibet's unique national, cultural and religious identity is today seriously threatened and manipulated by the Chinese. China's policy of occupation and oppression has resulted in no more or less than the destruction of Tibet's national independence, culture and religion, environment, and the universal human rights of its people.

"Whether intentionally or unintentionally, some kind of cultural genocide is taking place, in Tibet"

the Dalai Lama.

Before the Chinese occupation Tibetans where estimated to be 6000000, now in their original land they are around 4500000. 1000000 have been killed or died due to torture or starvation and the rest (the official number is 150000 but they are supposed to be more) leaves as political refugees, scattered all around the world. I am focused on them. My purpose is to follow the steps in the process of the Tibetans who had to escape from their homeland, often crossing the Himalayan range by foot, in order to save their cultural and religious identity, their traditions and their language from Chinese repression.
